Openleft.com has a terrific parody of Bush speaking to the blogosphere; you can see it here. It’s funny, and chilling. Sometimes we need the parody to see what is really being said in public speech. Parody?
The video at Open Left starts out as comedy, then rapidly morphs into black humor. I think the speech’s liberal use of silly “Bushisms” in the beginning draws the viewer in with comedic promise- they’re used less and less as the speech goes on until we’re left with our jaws hanging. The contrast reminds me of the contrast between the shots of Bush’s audience in Cleveland displayed at the BAG (above).
