Bola Cofield, Denise Orisha Suares, and Colette Winlock were part of a group of African-Americans on a bus from Brooklyn, New York to Washington DC on Sunday, Jan.18,2009, to attend the inauguration of President Barack Obama. Denise Orisha Suares commented,. ÒIÕm here representing my mother, my grandmother, and my great grandmother-the women that raised me. It is sweet sadness. They never thought they would see this in their lifetime. For them, being safe, and getting a good job was the best they could ask for-never being president.”
